Families Feeding Families Celebrates 15 Years of Giving Back to the Tomball Community

Local nonprofit marks milestone anniversary with continued commitment to serving those in need this Thanksgiving.

.In 2011, local businessman Rick Gatewood felt inspired to help those in need during Thanksgiving. He reached out to others in the Tomball area, and soon, local individuals, businesses, churches, and schools joined forces, recognizing the community’s need.

On November 23, 2011, the first Families Feeding Families event was held at Christbridge Fellowship. Over 500 meals were served to attendees, and volunteers also delivered meals to local nursing homes — sharing food, fellowship, and love with residents. The day featured free haircuts, face painting, children’s activities, and goodie bags, making it a memorable and heartwarming event.

This year, Families Feeding Families proudly celebrates its 15th anniversary, marking fifteen years of community compassion, connection, and service. Since its founding, the organization has served over 26,000 meals and welcomed 7,000 volunteers — all dedicated to helping others experience the joy and hope of Thanksgiving.

What began as one man’s idea has become a Tomball tradition, uniting neighbors, businesses, and local groups to ensure no one spends Thanksgiving alone or in need. The annual event now reaches even further, providing meals to the homeless and elderly who cannot attend in person through dedicated off-site volunteers.

The 15th anniversary celebration will take place on Thursday, November 26, 2025, at Salem Lutheran Church Community Center, where the community will come together once again to share a warm meal, fun activities, and the true spirit of Thanksgiving.
