This month’s presentation is by the American Red Cross. These folks have a wealth of experience and information on preparedness, for all aspects of our lives and all types of disasters. Learning about them, and how to access their life saving, business saving and community saving tips can be invaluable…and it is from the best! Their expertise goes way beyond preparedness…they are the experts on what to do during (surviving) and after (recovery) any type of disaster as well.

Biography for Michael “Mickey” Keyes
Mickey is transitioning his life after retirement and is currently a volunteer with the American Red Cross since September of 2012 and helping with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo in the Livestock Committee. Mickey is a retired police sergeant with 26 years of service with the Houston Police Department and holds a bachelor degree in criminal justice from the University of Houston. Mickey also has experience as a mortgage loan officer. He was born and raised in the Houston Area in Highlands having graduated from Baytown Sterling High School. He has lived in Highlands, Spring, Magnolia, and Kingwood.
Mickey’s volunteer work has included president of the Kingwood Park High School Athletic Booster Club; committee assignments in organizing the Houston Police Officers Golf tournaments supporting wounded law enforcement officers and military veterans, Wounded Warriors, and the USO; volunteering for the Candlelighters organization and Make a Wish Foundation, 911 Hero’s Run supporting first responders and veterans, Disaster Action Team (DAT) member and Disaster Services Human Resources (DSHR) member with the American Red Cross, and Livestock Committee Member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.
Mickey is married to Leslie Keyes, a real estate agent. He has two children, Jaclyn, an insurance representative in Humble, and son, Philip, a student at Texas State University in San Marcos.
