George Shackelford, began his position as the newest Tomball City Manager on July 12, 2010. Shackelford was selected to lead the city after an extensive search process that involved the city council and city staff.
Mr. Shackleford was city manager in Texarkana, near the Texas-Arkansas border. He served as city manager there from 1989 to 2007. Prior to that, he worked in city management for Littlefield and Canyon, and spent two years as city manager of Port Lavaca. He, also, worked as an interim city manager in Liberty. Just prior to coming to Tomball he was a senior vice president for projects and a public policy consultant for a Dallas-based firm for which he collaborated with government officials at various levels coordinating transportation issues. He has assisted in obtaining grant funds for environmental analysis studies and conducted administrative briefings in Austin and Washington, D.C., regarding transportation issues and has drafted legislation on sales tax issues. He holds a master’s degree in social sciences with an emphasis in public administration from West Texas State University(West Texas A&M University). He, also, holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice administration from WTAMU.
