Michael Turner is the son of a career Navy parachute rigger who grew up moving around the country with his father’s Navy assignments. He graduated W.J. Woodham high school in Pensacola, Floridaand joined the Army. Mike began his Army career in 1983 as a CH-47 Chinook aircraft mechanic and continued after he attended Warrant Officer Flight Training in 1987 when he started his career as a helicopter pilot. Mike’s Army career took him around the world with two tours in the Republicof Koreaand three tours at Ft. Bragg, NC. Mike also served in Japan, at Ft. Campbell, KY, and at Ft. Rucker, AL. Mike flew the UH-60 Blackhawk in combat and peace keeping tours with the 82nd Airborne Division for Desert Shield/Desert Storm (Iraq), with the 18th Airborne Corps during Operation Restore Democracy (Haiti), and with the 25th Infantry Division for Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan). Mr. Turner served as an Aviation Safety Officer and flew aero medical evacuation missions for 5 years.
In 1999, The Daedalians (Order of Military Aviators) designated Mike as the US Army Aviator of the year for flying rescue operations in the Tar Rivervalleyof North Carolinaafter Hurricane Floyd. Mike retired from the US Army as a
Chief Warrant Officer 4 (CW4) in August 2005.
Upon retiring from the Army, Mike flew 50, 70 and 90 seat Canadair Regional Jets as a first officer for Comair a Delta carrier from 2005 to 2008. After experiencing an airline career filled with bankruptcies and labor issues he returned to flying helicopters. He joined Memorial Hermann’s Life Flight program in March 2008 and accepted the Chief Pilot position in October 2008.
Mike has over 6500 hours of flight experience and holds several FAA ratings to include airline transport pilot ratings for multiengine land airplanes and helicopters with commercial instrument ratings in single engine airplanes. He is a gold seal certified flight instructor for airplanes single engine land, multiengine land and helicopters, instrument instructor for helicopters and airplanes.
Mike has a B.S. in Professional Aeronautics with a minor in Aviation Safety from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) and is currently working towards his Masters of Science in Management from ERAU.
Mike is married to Diedra (Mathsen) Turner. They have twin 5 year old boys Masen and Malek. Mike also has a 23 year old daughter Lianne and a 20 year old son Robert who lives and work in Newport News, VA. Mike and Diedra attend Christ the KingLutheranChurchin Kingwood.
