Artist Talk: Mark Burns at the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts
American photographer Mark Burns will give a lecture at the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts on Friday, March 10 at 6 p.m. The event is free but registration is required at pearlmfa.org. Burns was born in Houston and began working as a professional photographer in 1978. In this lecture, he will discuss his large format photography and traditional silver gelatin and platinum printmaking techniques. Burns combines his traditional photography background with modern digital equipment. A new exhibition of his work, “America’s Western Landscape,” is currently making its debut at the Pearl. Featured in the Main Gallery, the exhibit celebrates the raw beauty, vistas, and natural diversity of the American West. In many ways it represents the “best of the best” of Burns’ landscape work, with 50 pieces selected by the artist including black and white photographs, color photographs, and hand-colorized black and white photographs. The exhibition continues through May 13, 2023. Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and admission is free.
