LSC-TOMBALL TO HOST PANEL DISCUSSION ON CENSORSHIP | |
TOMBALL– The Lone Star College-Tomball (LSC-Tomball) Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society will host a panel discussion on censorship on Tuesday, November 29, at 7 p.m. in the LSC-Tomball Beckendorf Conference Center. The public is invited to this free event, where Phi Theta Kappa will explore the topic “Is Your Professor a Censor?” as part of its ongoing discussion series The Democratization of Information: Power, Peril, and Promise. The panel will examine such questions as how a professor decides what material to present in their courses, how much of their own ideology they filter out of class discussions, and whether there are any issues that are so “settled” that they no longer require discussion. Panelists include LSC-Tomball faculty members Dr. Bill Simcik, professor of Biology, Dr. Babu Srinivasan, professor of History, and Dr. Margaret Jelinek-Lewis, professor of Psychology. Other guests will include Dr. Don McLemore, member of the Texas State Board of Education, and local author Robert Bradley. LSC-Tomball is located at 30555 Tomball Parkway, at the intersection of State Highway 249 and Zion Road. For more information on the panel discussion, contact Phi Theta Kappa faculty advisor Dr. John B. (Bo) Rollins at John.B.Rollins@LoneStar.edu. |
