From the banks of the Mississippi to the wide shelter of an open sky, American composers have always known how to make music feel like a place. TPW's American Horizons concert gathers some of the most vivid voices in American composition — works that conjure rivers and landscapes, reverence and rhythm, the hushed and the exhilarating. The evening moves through the gentle sway of Ticheli's Shenandoah and the vast, atmospheric sweep of Mackey's Sheltering Sky, the playful energy of The Great Steamboat Race, the tender stillness of Whitacre's Seal Lullaby — and much more in between. Together, these pieces trace something essential about this country: its beauty, its restlessness, its hope. Some horizons are best heard. Come listen to where you live.
