WHO: Chairman Paul Bettencourt and the Select Committee on Property Tax Reform & Relief
WHAT: Houston Hearing of the Senate Select Committee on Property Tax Reform & Relief
The committee will be taking testimony concerning the effects of the burden of property taxes on property owners and how to improve the administration of the property tax system in Texas. At the committee's recent hearing in Arlington there were over 500 attendees and the committee heard over 11 hours of testimony. In the Dallas-Fort Worth area there was a 20% increase on residential properties over a two year period. It is expected that testimony will reveal that Harris County has seen a larger increase in that period. In Harris County, it has already been reported that commercial values are up 20% in just a single year.
